Summertime Chi

There is honestly nothing quite like summertime in Chicago. The remaining 9 months of the year it's probably easy to have the misconception that we're just here for the lake effect snow, year long construction, high cost of living, crippling sales tax, and underwhelming dating scene. But those few amazing months of sunshine and rooftops make it well worth the below zero temperatures in mid April.

Summertime Chi

Chicago has it all. Whether you're a thrill seeking tourist family of 4 looking to overpay for pizza and parking, a rooftop drinking female in your twenties in need of attention, or a Wicker Park festival goer still trying to make bermuda shorts happen; Chicago has something for you. Boats in the playpen, Patios everywhere, Cubs games, Navy Pier, rooftop bars, Street festivals, concerts in the park, sight seeing, music festivals, Lollapalooza, Millennium Park, Biking on Lakeshore, beach volleyball, Skydeck. The list literally doesn't stop. Any activity you want to do here this summer, Chicago already has it, and has already found a way to one up your expectations on it.

Cliche Chicago Summer Bucket List

Trying to create a bucket list for the summer in Chicago was literally impossible, there are SO many options and as a stereotypical dramatic female in her twenties, I can barely decide what I want for dinner in the next few hours, not sure why I thought creating a 3 month to-do list of local activities would have a different outcome. Never the less, I still create this bucket list every year, and, similar to my new year's resolutions, I complete hardly any of them. This year I'm determined to do more and thankfully with a little help from google and an adderall script, I was able to find a ton of Chicago bucket list ideas. It also just so happens to be the cliche topic choice of every self proclaimed Chicago blogger's "newest post" right now, so there's that. I won't overwhelm you with useless information that doesn't apply to you (a character trait my ex's new girlfriend publicly displays on her daily Instagram stories.) but I will attach some links and blogs and some new stuff that's happening here this summer. Feel free to read if your'e stuck in traffic, on a dinner date in the Viagra triangle with a man twice your age, or waiting in line at some trendy lunch spot in the city that refuses to take reservations. (we're looking at you Au Cheval)

Things I want to do in Chicago this Summer:

  1. Order "The Playpen" at Joy District for brunch, obvi.
  2. Have an uncomfortable custom menu made at Maple and Ash, perhaps celebrating a fake prison release date, or maybe completion of Invisalign treatment. "Happy F@%King last day of Laser Hair Removal Brittany!"
  3. Enjoy a boat ride at the playpen without having to flirt with men twice our age for the invitation.
  4. Take a game of beach volleyball WAY too seriously at North Ave beach
  5. Engage in a heated debate in the comments section of someone's instagram using only personal Facebook statuses from 2008.
  6.  Dedicate an entire Saturday to drinking at Shore Club with a 2018 Mykonos Lyndsay Lohan mentality.
  7. Engage in a fake Proposal at Paradise Park's new rooftop.
  8. Purchase a FCKABLE daddy issues hat to further reiterate my humble mentality and daddy kink.

Here are a list of links to places with actual Chicago Summertime  Bucket Lists that put time and research into them and not just a drunk or addied out note on their iPhone:

"The PlayPen" Exclusively at Joy District

The amazing staff at Joy District has allowed us to create a group style drink for their summer menu! What's a more Chicago staple in the summer than the playpen?!? This group style drink is a huge spicy margarita made with Casamigos tequila and the smallest bit of blue curacao and self validation. No Daddy needed! This drink is garnished with toy boats to replicate the playpen, and demands attention, just like women in Chicago. If you order this at Joy this summer, tag Overheard and Joy on instagram and we will re-share!  We hope you love it and can't wait to see your pics!!

Enjoy Summertime Chi!

XOXO,

Liz

When you get the PlayPen at Joy District, tag us on your story and we will reshare to Overheards! We cant wait to see your pics!!

Also, big shout out to our wonderful friends at Happy Camper who liked one of our Overheard quotes so much they put it above their Emergency Exit Sign! Also, THE PATIO IS OPEN!!!!  If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting Happy Camper, I highly recommend it! They're also opening another location in Wrigley to keep the party going in every neighborhood!
